Huashan Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Southernmost Jilin. The Huashan Fm was named by the Southern Jilin Party of Regional Geological Survey, Changchun College of Geological Exploration in 1960. The type section is at Huashan Township (Laosandui-Huashan-Linjiang), Hunjiang City, Jilin Province. Is part of the Laoling Gr. Middle (3 of 5) formation in Laoling Gr.
Synonym: (花山组)
Lithology and Thickness
In the type section: Lower part of the formation consists of mica-quartz schist, two-mica quartz schist, intercalated with staurolite two-mica schist and four beds of calcareous marble. Middle part is composed of zoisitic two-mica schist, two-mica quartz schist, magnetitic-two-mica schist, intercalated with three beds of calcareous marble. Upper part is dominated by staurolite two-mica schist with five beds of calcareous marble. It is distinguished from the other formations within the Laoling Gr by the calcareous marbles. The marble beds gradually decrease toward west, for example in Tonghua County it consists almost wholly of schist without any marble layers. The Huashan Fm, 4675 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is in conformable contact with underlying Zhenzhumen Fm.
Upper contact
It is in conformable contact with the overlying Linjiang Fm.
Regional extent
Southernmost Jilin. In its distribution area, it stretches in northeast and southwest direction with the center at Huashan Township.
